Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 1, 2026

Déjà Food ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Déjà Food mobile application (the "App"), which allows users to log restaurant experiences, review dishes, and discover personalized food recommendations. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

By creating an account and using the App, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you register, we collect your email address (used for authentication and account management) and a password (stored as a hashed credential, never in plain text).

Profile Information

During onboarding, we ask you to provide:

  • First name and last name
  • Gender (male, female, or prefer not to say)
  • Nationality
  • Age range (below 20, 21–30, 31–40, 41–50, 51–60, or above 60)
  • Profile photo (optional)

You are also assigned a unique, anonymous User Code (e.g., "U001") that is displayed publicly alongside your reviews instead of your name or email.

Reviews and User-Generated Content

When you submit a dish review or restaurant review, we store the content you provide, including:

  • Dish and restaurant names
  • Your rating, notes, and taste tags
  • Photos you upload of dishes or restaurants
  • Price information (optional)
  • Date of visit

Reviews are anonymous. They are publicly associated with your anonymous User Code and demographic information (gender, nationality, age range) — never with your name, email address, or profile photo.

Location Data

The App uses your device's GPS location to detect nearby restaurants and suggest the correct branch when you scan a dish or write a review. Location is used in real-time for these features and is not stored as a permanent record of your movements.

Photos and Camera

With your permission, the App accesses your camera or photo library to capture dish photos for reviews and to power the dish scanner feature. Photos you choose to upload are stored on our servers.

Support Communications

If you contact support through the in-app chat or submit a restaurant request, we store your email address, User Code, and the content of your conversation to assist you.

Shared Reviews

If you share a review with another user, we store the recipient's email address to deliver the shared review. The recipient sees your User Code and review content — not your name or email.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To create and manage your account and authenticate your identity
  • To display your anonymous reviews and ratings in the App
  • To provide personalized dish and restaurant recommendations
  • To detect nearby restaurants using your device location
  • To power AI-assisted features such as dish scanning and menu import
  • To process restaurant requests and new dish submissions
  • To provide customer support and respond to your inquiries
  • To share reviews with other users at your request
  • To improve the App's features, content, and user experience
  • To comply with legal obligations

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal data. Your information is shared only in the following circumstances:

  • Public reviews: Your reviews (linked to your anonymous User Code and demographics) are visible to other App users.
  • Shared reviews: When you explicitly share a review, the recipient can view your User Code and review content.
  • Service providers: We use third-party services to operate the App, including:
    • Google Maps and Google Places APIs (for restaurant locations and photos)
    • AI and language model services (for dish scanning and menu processing)
    • Cloud hosting and data storage providers
These providers process data on our behalf under appropriate data protection agreements.
  • Legal compliance: If required by law, court order, or government authority, or to protect our rights and safety.

4. Data Retention

We retain your account information and reviews for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account through the App's Settings, we permanently remove your profile, reviews, photos, and associated data.

5. Your Privacy Rights

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access: You can view your data in the App's Settings section.
  • Update: You can edit your profile information at any time in Settings.
  • Deletion: You can permanently delete your account and all associated data by using the "Delete Account" option in Settings → Security. This action cannot be undone.
  • Withdraw consent: You can revoke camera and location permissions in your device settings.

6. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including encrypted password storage, access controls, and secure cloud infrastructure. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

8. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting the updated policy in the App. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was last revised.

9. Contact Us
